Your budgie’s cage needs to be cleaned regularly. Every day, or at least every other day, change the paper in the tray. The tray needs to be washed once a week. Depending on your budgie’s habits, the whole cage may need to be washed once a month.
Budgies only eat the inner part of seeds and leave the husks in the dish. Don’t think that your pet hasn’t eaten because the dish looks full. Once a day take the seed dish out of the cage and gently blow the husks off the remaining seed. You may want to do this outside.
Your budgie needs clean, fresh water every day. Even if the water silo looks full, it should be emptied, rinsed, and refilled daily. Once a week it needs to be washed with mild dish detergent and rinsed very well. I find a bottle brush works well. Many budgies enjoy a bath or being misted with room temperature water. You can buy a budgie bath at most pet shops.
A pet budgie needs something to do all day while the family is at work or school. Your local pet store will have a variety of toys, mirrors, bells, and other accessories to keep your pet amused. Just be sure the toys are safe and the right size for a budgie.
